Four held for running fake call centre in city
Delhi Police on Monday busted a fake insurance call centre racket and arrested four persons who had allegedly cheated several persons of lakhs of rupees.
The police recovered 20 mobiles, 65 fake SIM cards, 6 WLL phones, two laptops and R 3 lakh cash from them.
The arrested men, identified as Naveen Gupta (31), Sunil Shah (26), Sonu Sharma (23) and Sumit Kapoor (26), had 12 people working under them.
According to the police, the men had allegedly opened a call centre by the name of All India Financial Services at Mukherji Park, Tilak Nagar.
“They hired five men and seven women as employees and provided them with data banks of insurance companies. The telecallers introduced themselves as representatives of “governing body of insurance council” and asked victims about problems they faced from insurance companies,” DCP south, Ishwar Singh said.
“The aggrieved victims would gladly give details of their policies, hoping to receive some help,” he said.
After gathering all details, the tele-callers passed the information to the four men who then used to ask victims to deposit money as consultancy fees and assured them of returning the entire amount with interest.
“Many people fell in their trap and transferred lakhs of rupees to their accounts hoping to get their grievances with the insurance policies sorted out. But as soon as the victims transferred the amount, the four men went underground. They cheated several people of lakhs. We recovered ₹3 lakh from them,” Singh said.
