Capital sizzles at 44°C, rain forecast for today
Even as the capital on Thursday continued to reel under intense heat with the mercury reaching 43.2°C, there might be slight rain relief on Friday. In Palam, the temperature touched 44.9°C on Thursday.
The weathermen have predicted overcast conditions on Friday with possibility of a thundershower. “The maximum and minimum temperatures might hover around 43°C and 26°C respectively. In the coming days, the maximum temperature will slightly come down because of some favourable wind activities on the western horizon,” the MeT department official said.
On Thursday, however, the Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered official for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 43.2°C, five notches above the season’s average.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.5°C, four notches above normal. Humidity levels fluctuated between 53% and 17%.
On Wednesday, the mercury had soared to 44°C in some parts of the city, while the minimum had settled at 25.4°C.
