Two ‘criminals’ shot in NE Delhi
Two men with alleged criminal backgrounds were gunned down by unidentified persons in North-East Delhi’s Jafrabad late Wednesday night.
Police suspect the role of their rivals in the double murder but there was no breakthrough in the case till late Thursday.
The murdered men are Imran, 25, and his 35-year-old friend, Mohd Qamar. AK Singla, DCP (North-East), said the duo had cases of attempt to murder and robbery registered against them. They lived in different parts of North-East Delhi.
The duo and a friend, who too has a criminal background, were triple riding a motorcycle in Street Number 48 of Jafrabad around 11 pm on Wednesday when two or three unidentified men fired at them.
Over 15 rounds were fired on the trio in the street that serves as a residential as well as commercial area. Before anyone could react to the shooting, the killers fled in different directions.
Police said they received a call from locals about the firing at 11.11 pm. When a team reached the spot, Imran was found dead with bullet wounds to his head. A loaded pistol, suspected to belong to him, was found next to his body.
Qamar, meanwhile, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to bullet injuries during treatment. The friend of the deceased, however, escaped without being hit.
Police sources said the deceased duo belonged to the notorious Chenu gang that operates in the trans-Yamuna area. Chenu, whose real name is Irfan, is the alleged criminal who was attacked by his rivals in Karkardooma Court premises in December 2015.
The Chenu gang is at loggerheads with the Nasir gang, accused of the Karkardooma Court firing. Investigators suspect the Nasir gang to be behind the attack and have rounded up several suspected members for questioning.
