India skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday did his bit to connect with his special fans as he paid a visit to Tamahar, a non-government organisation for children with special needs, along with Shane Watson and AB de Villiers to bring the kids’ idols and heroes closer to them.

It was an excellent gesture, given the kind of schedule the Indian Premier League has over the next few weeks, and Kohli ensured that the kids have a special time.

“Came to meet some really special children at tamahar with Shane and AB. What a special time and so much to learn from them. Just happy with small things in life,” Kohli stated while posting a picture on his Instagram account along with Watson and de Villiers. In the background, a kid is seen playing with colourful balls; oblivious to the snap being taken.

This isn’t the first time that Kohli has done something like this though. Last year, the Virat Kohli Foundation had hosted dinner for young entrepreneurs and underprivileged kids with cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul all being part of the

event.

Mumbai Indians, too, had reached out to kids with special needs this season as part of their ‘Education For All’ initiative. During their home match against Gujarat Lions earlier this week, the Wankhede Stadium had almost turned into a sea of blue as 18,000 children, including 70-80 of them suffering from autism spectrum disorder, had made their way to the stadium.

Kids from various non-government organisations across Maharashtra enjoy the privilege every season since 2010 as part of the initiative.

However, this was the first time that autistic kids benefited from the initiative.
