Double delight for Soumyajit

was a double delight for Soumyajit Ghosh as he bagged the singles and doubles gold at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF Challenge Chile Open in Santiago. Ghosh defeated compatriot Anthony Amalraj 4-2 (8-11 13-11 11-6 11-9 4-11 11-7) in the men’s final.

He also combined with Amalraj to win the men’s doubles title.This is the first time India had won a men’s doubles title on either the ITTF Challenge Series or ITTF World Tour. India’s top shotgun shooters failed to make the cut for the men’s skeet final in the ISSF World Cup in Larnaka, Cyprus on Monday.Miaraj Ahmed Khan began on a promising note with a series of 24, 25, 24, 25 but in the last and fifth round he missed three targets to score 22 for an aggregate of 120 out of possible 125. In the field of 94 shooters he overall finished 20th. Top six advance to the final. UAE’s Saif Bin Futtais topped the field with 124 points. Angad Vir Singh shot 118 to finish 30th while Sheeraz Sheikh too didn’t qualify after finishing 77th. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) will organise a selection trial between Rio Olympic Games bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and Manju Kumari in the women’s 58kg freestyle on May 5.

The Asian Championsh­ip trials were earlier scheduled for Sunday. The WFI selected Jyoti in 75kg after K Kiran skipped trials. In the bout between Pinki Jangra and Seema, theformer made the cut in the 53kg.
