Preserve, protect Mother Earth for future generations

-

EARTH IS our home planet and it is the only planet where life has been found. It was only in 1970 that human beings realised that without earth living is impossible. To secure their future, earth had to be saved. Man realised that God had made him to be the caretaker of the earth and he was responsible for ruining it.

The idea of saving the Earth came to Gaylord Nelson after witnessing the ravages of the 1969 massive oil spill. The oil spill had a devastating impact on marine life. It was soon realised that new devices like heating systems, air conditioners etc were creating havoc for the environment.

Therefore, on April 22, 1970, around 20 million Americans took to the streets to demonstrate for a healthy and sustainable environment. Since then the Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on that day (April 22) annually.

On this day, we spread public awareness and concern for the environment. The modern environmental movement impacts every individual as now we are using advanced technology and systems which would help reduce environmental pollution. Scientists are working to find ways of using wind energy, energy from sea waves etc. Gradually, Earth Day celebrations went global and was observed in 141 countries. This year, the theme is Environmental and Climate Literacy. The focus is on global warming and a push for clean energy. The aim is to change human behaviour so that the present race of human beings leaves the earth sustainable enough for the future generation too.
