Metro may hand over parking to DDA, MCD
To improve the parking situation in the city, space available with the Delhi Metro might be handed over to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and municipal corporations. Addressing the twenty-third Foundation Day of the Delhi Metro, lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has agreed to it.
“In the meeting yesterday (Tuesday), we had a preliminary discussion on parking spaces which are available with Delhi Metro. If they (DMRC) are not able to develop, I would like them to hand it over to the DDA and municipal corporations,” he said.
Sources said that this was one of the issues discussed in a meeting with L-G on Tuesday and L-G also called for improvement in the last-mile connectivity.
“Delhi Metro has achieved quite a few firsts in the country if not in the world. Project management has been of very high standard. Delhi Metro has shown to the rest of the construction agencies in the country, how to carry out project construction in highly congested areas,” Baijal added.
DMRC chief Mangu Singh said last year was a satisfactory year as far as operations are concerned. “We are transporting about 28 lakh passengers with the help of about 3,100 train trips maintaining a punctuality of 99.97%. We are a member of the prestigious COMET organisation, which is an association of the world’s big Metros. Every year, we compare the performance of the Metros. Benchmarking is done for all Metros. Every year we are featuring among the top three or four Metros in all respects,” Singh said.
