The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress on Sunday demanded Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation after the Aam Aadmi Party’s sacked minister Kapil Mishra alleged that the chief minister took ₹2 crore in cash from health minister Satyendra Jain.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said, “Kejriwal has lost both moral and legal rights to be on the post. What Mishra is saying is not just an allegation but a statement of a witness.”

“I would like to thank Mishra for showing the courage to raise his voice against corruption in his own party,” he said.

Tiwari also met lieutenant governor Anil Baijal later in the day at Raj Niwas and submitted a memorandum requesting him to “examine the possibility of dismissing them (Kejriwal and Jain) and referring the matter to investigating agencies”.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken too said that Mishra’s claims were not mere allegations but the testimony of an eyewitness warranting initiation of criminal proceedings against Kejriwal.

“Mishra’s saying that he saw Kejriwal taking ₹2 crore is not just an allegation but an affidavit before the public. It is a serious matter if a former minister is raising such issues. The Anti-Corruption Branch and CBI should immediately register an FIR,” he said.

Maken said that though the BJP raises hue and cry when allegations surface against AAP leaders but they do not taking it to a logical conclusion.

Questioning the Centre’s will, he said that no FIR was filed against Aam Aadmi Party even after the Shunglu committee levelled serious charges against the party ruling Delhi.

“If there was no action initiated then, how can we believe that the Centre is serious in fighting against corruption,” he said.

The Congress is also planning to launch a signature campaign under which they will collect 10 lakh signatures demanding the chief minister’s resignation and hand it to Kejriwal.

“Since, Kejriwal had talked about right to recall before becoming the CM, we would want to remind him the same by giving these signatures,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress workers held a protest later in the evening outside chief minister’s residence. Police had to intervene and use water canon to disperse the workers.

Kejriwal has lost both Mishra’s saying that moral and legal rights he saw Kejriwal to be on the post. What taking ₹2 crore is not just Mishra said... is the an allegation but an statement of a witness. affidavit before the public.
