BSc (Hon) Botany is a comprehensive course that comprises of both pure and applied plant sciences. It offers academic activities like classroom learning, lab practice, infield learning, excursions and research projects.
Minimum 55% marks in the aggregate of three subjects — Biology or Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry — and 50% marks in English in Class 12.
Nature lovers with inclination towards plant-based study and research at remote places. Choice-Based Credit System is a semester-based course, which contains core courses (compulsory); elective courses that include discipline-specific elective subjects (choice-based, discipline-related) and generic elective subjects (choice-based discipline-unrelated); and ability enhancement courses, which further includes a compulsory course and an elective course/ skill enhancement course (SEC).
For BSc (Hon) Botany, in the first year, students study four core subjects (microbiology and phycology, biomolecules, mycology & phytopathology and archegoniatae); two elective (language, environmental science) and two GE subjects. In second year, six core subjects (anatomy of angiosperms, economic botany, genetics, molecular biology, ecology & plant systematics), two SEC (ethnobotany, intellectual property rights, biofertilisers and medicinal botany) and two GE topics. In third year, they study four core subjects (reproductive biology of angiosperms, plant physiology, plant metabolism and plant biotechnology) and four DSE subjects (analytical techniques in plant sciences, biostatistics, industrial & environmental microbiology, bioinformatics).
