BREAKTHROUGH One of the three accused confessed his crime to the sarpanch of Bas Kusla village, hunt on for third suspect in UP THE THREE ACCUSED RAPED THE 19YEAROLD WOMAN AT A VACANT PLOT IN MANESAR AND SMOTHERED HER EIGHTMONTHOLD DAUGHTER TO DEATH ON MAY 29

In a major breakthrough in the brutal Manesar gang rape case, the Gurgaon police has arrested two accused and identified their other accomplice. The three accused allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman and smothered her eight-month old daughter to death on the night of May 29.

The breakthrough came when one of the accused allegedly confessed his crime to the sarpanch of Bas Kusla village in Manesar, where the three accused lived on rent.

Yogendra and Amit are in police custody, while Jaikesh is still absconding. The three accused belong to Runsi village in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh and are in the age group of 19 to 20 years.

Sarpanch Ajit Chauhan after hearing about the incident, called assistant commissioner of police Dharamvir Singh who is in charge of the Special Investigation Team constituted by the Gurgaon police to look into the case. “The police came within 15 minutes and the accused admitted that he had committed the heinous crime along with his two friends,” Chauhan said.

One of the accused who had gone with Yogender to confess the alleged crime managed to give a slip to the police team that was called by the village elders.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said Yogender was arrested from the village and was taken to Manesar Industrial police station in sector 7. “The crime teams used every resource to get information and a very sustained investigation was carried out. This has become possible because of the intelligence inputs,” said Khirwar.

Amit was arrested near Sirhaul border on Wednesday late evening, said Manish Sehgal, Gurgaon police spokesman. A police team is hunting for Jaikesh in Bulandshahr, UP, Sehgal added.

Yogender told the sarpanch that they had picked up the woman near Bas Kusla village. After buying food worth ₹180 from a hotel in Manesar they went up to Kherki Daula toll plaza and took a turn back to Manesar and raped the woman at an empty plot in sector 8.

“The three had taken up a room in the village on rent and when they told us about the incident, I immediately called the police” Chauhan said.

On May 29, the three accused had given a lift to the victim and her daughter in their fourwheeler Tata Magic vehicle and instead of dropping her to her in-laws’ house in Khandsa village, Gurgaon, they took turns to rape her at a vacant plot in Manesar. During the incident, the accused allegedly smothered the victim’s daughter as she was crying. Police said that she died of asphyxia.

Bas Kusla village is in the heart of industrial township of Manesar. It has a native population of around 5,000, while almost 50,000 migrant workers live here on rent.

Jeetu Pradhan, a resident of the village, said that such a crime has never happened here in the past.

The gang rape of the 19-yearold woman and the murder of her infant child took place on May 29 night. The police had on May 30 registered a case of death due to negligence. On June 3, a case of gang rape under section 376 D of IPC was added to the FIR.
