How CCTV footage, 9 other vital clues helped cops
scanning footage from CCTV camera installed at roadside eateries and liquor vends to tracing a short call made by the accused on the night of May 29, the Gurgaon police worked on several leads to nab the accused in Manesar gang rape and murder case.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed on Tuesday to investigate the case, prepared a list of 10 vital clues and worked on them. Apart from collecting evidence such as CCTV footage, they talked to the potential witnesses on the route on which the accused took the victim, as per her statement. .
The SIT scanned details of all Tata Magic commercial vehicles, auto drivers and canters. The team also checked CCTV camera footage from liquor shops and dhabas between Manesar and Kherki Daula toll plaza. The footage of CCTV cameras at the toll plaza were also scanned.
The victim had alleged that the three accused killed her eight-month-old daughter and gang-raped her on May 29, when she took a lift from them to reach her in-laws’ village, Khandsa.
“It was a sensitive case and required meticulous investigation. The team prepared 10 main points and worked on them. Human intelligence and technical surveillance put pressure on the accused one of which ultimately gave in,” said Sandeep Khirwar, Gurgaon commissioner of police.
The police nabbed the second accused on Wednesday evening from Sirhaul border. Teams have been sent to Bulandshahr in UP to trace the third accused in the case.
Initially, the police got information that the incident took place in an auto-rickshaw, following which auto drivers were questioned. But the CCTV footage suggested that it was fourwheeler Tata Magic mini van. The police team then collected the details of as many as 30 such minivans that fit the description.
A short call reportedly made by the accused during the crime also helped the police in collecting details about the case.
Dharambir Singh, assistant commissioner of police Manesar, said data of mobile calls was analysed and it also helped in identification of the suspects.
