Can I get admission in SRK’s college? Query to DU helpline

THE DELHI UNIVERSITY ADMISSION HELPLINE WILL BE ACTIVE TILL JULY 31. APPLICANTS CAN ALSO EMAIL

THEIR QUERIES

A Bollywood-obsessed student asked if he could get admission in the same college where Shahrukh Khan studied. Another asked if she could get the cutoff list on WhatsApp.

These were some of the queries being answered by Delhi University’s admission helpline number 011-27006900 to assist students with the admission process.

The helpline number being managed by the University Information Centre (UIC) receives around 6,000 calls a day from curious applicants from across the country, UIC officials said.

The helpline, active from 9 am to 5 pm, has 12 people attending to calls from applicants and their parents related to the undergraduate and postgraduate admission process.

“I attend around 500 calls every day. At any given time we are answering 11 applicants simultaneously. One line is kept free for other calls,” said Sarita from Bhim Rao Ambedkar College. Sarita is working as an intern with UIC.

All these students have been trained in advance to help applicants with their queries. They are paid ₹290 per day as stipend.

“Callers mostly ask about the cutoffs and postgraduate forms. But there are some who ask weird questions too. One caller asked if he could get admission in the same college where Shahrukh Khan studied. Another wanted to know if she can receive the cutoff on WhatsApp,” said Sarita.

Another volunteer Gajanand Shrivastava said most callers ask which colleges are the best and which course they should apply for.

“Students ask if they have to fill in their total marks or the best of four aggregate while filling the admission form. They want to know about the best colleges in DU,” he said.

It isn’t just queries that the interns handle but also complaints from applicants. “Parents call us with complaints such as not receiving any confirmation even after filling the form,” he said.

Officials from UIC said the admission helpline will be active till July 31. “Applicants can also mail their query on du.ug.help.2017@gmail.com.

For payment related queries we have two numbers on which applicants can call -7982991983 and 8967657510,” an official from UIC said.
