ADMISSION RUSH Deadline extended to 5pm today after sudden spike in registrations over the last couple of days, first cutoff on June 20

Delhi University has extended the deadline to fill the online registration form by one day and allowed students to complete the process by Tuesday.

The registration process was to be close at 5 pm on Monday but officials extended the deadline after they noticed that a large number of students were paying fees as well as new applicants were registering.

“Towards the closing time we noticed that every minute almost 10-15 students were making fee payment and similar numbers of students were doing fresh registration. Looking at this trend we decided to extend the deadline till 5pm on Tuesday,” said Manoj Khanna, member of university’s admission committee.

Close to two lakh applicants submitted their application by 5 pm and over three lakh applicants registered with the university. “We had 2,07,751 applications completed by Monday 5 pm. We are expecting it to go up by Tuesday,” said an official.

Officials said one of the reasons for the jump in registrations at the last moment could be due to state board results being declared recently. The Uttar Pradesh Board results were announced on June 9. CBSE Board results were also delayed this year and announced on May 28.

This year, for the first time, the university had blocked multiple registrations which meant that if an applicant had filled the form using her board roll number and tries to fill another form with the same roll number then that would not be allowed.

“Till 2016, applicants could do multiple registrations but this year it wasn’t allowed. This could be one of the reasons why we have had fewer number of completed applications compared to last year when we had 2,50,914 applications,” said another official.

The first cutoff will be announced on June 20 with admissions beginning at 10am the same day. The colleges are expected to release the dates for sports trial and extracurricular activities trials from June 14.

This year female students from Delhi and NCT are being directly registered for non collegiate women’s education board (NCWEB) if they opt for BA or BCom. The first cutoff of NCWEB will be announced on June 24.

St Stephen’s College is expected to announce its first cutoff on Tuesday and bring out the list of selected candidates for interview on June 15. BA Programme
