BA Programme emerges top choice, over one lakh apply
Delhi University, BA Programme is a sure shot hit among students applying for undergraduate admissions. English (hons) is a close second as per the number of applications received by the university for these subjects.
The online registration process for about 56,000 seats will continue till Tuesday 5 pm after the university decided to extend the deadline by a day.
But going by the registration figures till Monday 5 pm, BA Programme received 1,34,847 applications and English (hons) received 1,24,220 applications.
Officials said one of the reasons for these courses getting maximum number of applications is that most students are eligible to take admission in the courses unlike other courses which have specific requirements.
“For commerce and science courses you need to have studied the subject else there will be deduction of marks from the best of four aggregate. But all stream can apply for English (hons) as everyone has studied the subject in school,” an official said.
BCom and political science have also received a high number of applications at 1,04,975 and 95,497, respectively.
A DU official said a lot of students apply for BA Programme and B.Com course thinking that the cutoff will be lower in a programme course compared to an honours course.
“But if you look at the cutoffs of these courses then it is as high as hons courses,” an official said.
Last year, BA Programme was available at 97% at Lady Shri Ram (LSR) and 96.50 % at Miranda House in the first cut-off. Similarly BCom was at 96.75% at Sri Venkateswara College and at 98.25% at Jesus and Mary College.
Officials also said the higher number of applications may result into higher cutoffs than last year. “If a subject receives a really high number of applications then cutoffs are likely to rise as the student with high scores will also be applying for the courses,” he said. taxis registered in Delhi as on Feb 2, 2017 Others
