The online registration for admissions to around 10,000 seats in postgraduate and research courses at Delhi University started on Monday evening and will end on June 22.

The offline entrance test for these courses will be held from July 1-6 at six locations — Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, Nagpur and Varanasi.

The results will be announced from July 7-12 and the first admission list will be out on July 16. Students can apply at www.admission.du.ac.in/pg2017. The application fee for general and OBC students is ₹500 and ₹250 for SC/ST/PwD (Person with Disability).

“We have 72 PG courses being offered by 47 departments with total seats of around 9,000-10,000,” said MK Pandit, head admission committee.

Pandit said all applicants seeking admission will have to register on the admission portal. About 50% of the total seats are reserved for direct admission for students who have completed their undergraduation from DU. The admission is based on the marks scored by the applicants in their UG courses.

The remaining 50% seats are given to applicants who clear entrance exams. Some departments also conduct an interview after the entrance exams.

This year, the university has about 650 seats in MPhil courses and about 850-890 in PhD courses. The number of seats in PhD courses vary every year as there is an upper limit to the number of students a faculty member can guide.

The applicants who have Junior Research Fellowship or any other national fellowship won’t have to take an entrance exam, but they have to give an interview.
