In the past too, this gang was involved in similar cases. Last year, they had targeted a paper godown in outer Delhi’s Alipur. They were arrested. But that did not stop them. from continuing the crime.

Delhi Police have busted a gang from Bihar that committed burglaries and robberies in warehouses in the capital.

Three members of the gang, including its kingpin, were arrested last week from their native village in Bihar’s Motihari for their alleged involvement in a godown burglary reported from south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur on June 3.

According to Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (south-east), the three men burgled a readymade garments godown in Vishawkarma Colony and made away with 282 cartons containing branded garments worth over ₹ 80 lakh. The godown belonged to an exporter of readymade garments based in Faridabad, Haryana. The stolen garments were to be exported to Dubai and some south Indian cities.

“A case of burglary was registered and investigation was taken up by the Pul Prahladpur police,” said Baaniya. During investigation, police scanned footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the godown. One of the cameras had footage of a truck, in which the burglars were seen loading the cartons.

“We examined the video footage minutely and managed to get the registration number of the truck. The ownership of the truck was established. The truck owner was questioned and he gave us details about the persons who had hired the vehicle. We found that the suspects were from Motihari in Bihar,” said an investigator.

A team was sent to Motihari, from where the three burglars were arrested. They were identified as Upendra Yadav, who was the kingpin, Sandeep Saha and Anil Saha. A total of 282 cartons containing stolen garments were seized from them. “We hired a truck to bring the stolen property back to Delhi. The burglars has revealed that they were planning to sell them in the grey market in Nepal,” said the officer.

During interrogation, the trio revealed that they targetted the godown after conducting a series of recces that helped them learn that the godown was closed for the past three days and there was not much security in place. After the burglary, they prepared fake documents to shift the stolen garments to Motihari through a transport company.

“This gang was involved in similar cases in the past as well. Last year, they had targeted a paper godown in outer Delhi’s Alipur. The case was solved and they were arrested. But that did not stop them from continuing their crimes,” Baaniya said.
