4 men loot ₹37L from Flipkart’s godown

Four masked men allegedly barged inside the delivery centre of retail e-commerce giant Flipkart in Dilshad Garden in east Delhi on Sunday and robbed ₹37 lakh at gunpoint.

The men, who are yet to be identified, allegedly held the company’s staff and guard hostage at gunpoint and even hit them with a pistol butt, when they tried to resist the robbery bid.

According to the police, six staff members of the company were inside the godown when the incident occurred. The company had reportedly stacked the week’s earnings, that was to be deposited in a bank by a security company in a cash van.

The men, two of whom were wearing helmets and other two had covered their faces, barged inside the centre while the collection and counting of cash was in progress. The security guard had half drawn the shutter down.

“Two men wearing helmets reportedly hit the guard with the butt of a pistol and entered the centre. The six staff members who were in the process of keeping cash safely in the main locker were held hostage,” a senior police officer said.

One of the staff members complained that the men threatened to shoot them all if they did not get to a corner and faced the wall. The two men, who were wearing helmets, then collected the cash and put it in two bags that they were carrying. The men allegedly even thrashed the staff members to scare them, police said.

“The men took all the money and after emptying the locker, they fled the spot. Before leaving the spot they even took the DVR that had the recording of the CCTV footage along,” a senior police officer said.

Police said that the men did not leave any clue behind. “The men had their faces covered and were reportedly talking in code words. Since they took the DVR along, there is no footage of them carrying out the robbery despite high definition CCTV cameras having been installed inside. The staff members could not even see if the men came on a bike or a car,” a police officer said.

The police have registered a case of robbery and are trying to ascertain the identity of the men. “We have asked Flipkart to give us details of the previous employees and people who knew that money is counted and transferred to the locker at that hour,” a police officer said.
