Owner pushes paying guest off fifth floor for complaining
A 20-year-old man from Uttarakhand died after he was allegedly pushed from the fifth floor of a paying guest accommodation by its owner and his sons after an altercation on late Wednesday night in Gurgaon, police said.
Two people, including the PG caretaker Sushil and his brother Shishram, who was involved in the fight, were detained, DLF Phase 2 station house officer Sudip Singh said.
Ramesh Singh Bisht from Bindukhatta village in Nainital was part of a group which arrived in Gurgaon on June 28 for training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. “They were undergoing training under IL&FS Skills in the basement of another PG, adjacent to theirs. Their training was for 45 days to become waiters,”one of Bisht’s friends told HT.
Manoj Kumar, in-charge of the DLF Phase 3 police post, said Bisht and some other men got into a fight with Satbir Singh, the owner of the PG and a resident of Nathupur, at about 12am on Thursday. Singh lives on the first floor of the same building with his family.
In a statement, Gurgaon Police spokesperson Ravinder Kumar said the PG inmates, including Bisht, had been “bothering” Singh over water and electricity issues for the last three to four days. This apparently was the primary reason for the fight, the statement added.
Others living in the PG, however, had a different version. They alleged that the owner had been abusing them and used to come to their floor after drinking every night.
Neeraj Singh Panwar, on whose statement the FIR was filed, said the owner asked them to accommodate three more beds in Bisht’s room or vacate it on Wednesday night. “Six of us stay in the room and we told him that we will shift the next morning. Singh started fighting and called his men with sticks and rods.”
Another inmate Kishan Singh Deopa said the men with sticks in their hands trailed them while they from one room to another. The owner and his men then allegedly pushed Bisht and he fell from the fifth floor of the building, another PG inmate said. His friends rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. However, police sources said Bisht died on the spot.
