Iyer, Herwadkar hit tons; TN get 3 points in draw vs Mumbai
MUMBAI: Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer struck an attacking 138 to steal the show on the final day but Tamil Nadu took three points in their drawn Ranji Trophy Group C game on Friday.
Iyer’s 11th first-class ton and his 187-run partnership with opener Akhil Herwadkar, who made 132, saw Mumbai declare their second innings at 371/5 , having conceded a 76-run first innings lead to the visitors.
The game ended with Mumbai’s declaration. Tamil Nadu got three points while Mumbai had to settle for one.
Resuming on their overnight 85/1, Iyer continued to attack, not afraid to go for big hits. He finished with nine sixes.
The 22-year-old reached his century off 100 balls. Herwadkar proved the ideal foil as he rotated the strike efficiently. Herwadkar took over after Iyer was out, frustrating the TN bowlers.
It was a tough day for the Tamil Nadu bowlers with only left-arm spinner Rahil Shah and K Vignesh finding success.
ASHWIN STRUGGLES
The country’s premier off-spinner R Ashwin went wicketless in his 26 overs, conceding 110 runs.
Tamil Nadu batsman B Indrajith was named player of the match for the knock of 152.
