NOIDA: A one-and-a-half year old toddler died, while his two brothers are battling for life after they were allegedly given poisonous substance by a woman in their neighbourhood in Talda village, Dankaur in Greater Noida on Sunday afternoon.

The case took a mysterious turn on Monday morning when the 35-year-old woman Jagwati, who was suspected of poisoning the kids, was found lying unconscious by her husband. She was taken to Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida, where doctors declared her brought dead. The body has been sent for postmortem and reports are awaited.

The matter came to light on Sunday afternoon around 2pm, when the children’s parents returned from the paddy fields and found them in pain. Police said that the children had vomited and were taken to Sharda Hospital.

On reaching the hospital, the youngest sibling Nakul was declared brought dead, while Bansi (6) and Vinish (3) are being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit. The two are yet to regain consciousness to give any statement, police said.

The last rites of Nakul were performed on Sunday, after which police was informed about the incident. Suniti, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said, “One of the family members dialled 100 on Sunday evening and informed about the incident. A police team from Dankaur reached the spot and started investigation.”

Subhash, the father of the children, said,“while we used to work in the fields, our children would sometimes go to Jagwati’s house to play. I suspected the woman as she would often rebuke my children. Now, she has also died and it is confusing me.” This can be confirmed only after his older son narrates the incident, the police said.

We did not receive any complaint from the family and no case has been registered in this regard. Doctors at the hospital told us that the children had consumed some poisonous substance,” said Farmood Ali Pundir, station house officer, Dankaur police station.
