30-year-old arrested for shooting at friend after tiff over share of liquor
NOIDA: A 30-year-old man was arrested i n Greater Noida on Tuesday for allegedly shooting at his friend.
Police said the man, Sarvinder Kumar, had shot dead his friend Majinder Singh for allegedly drinking more than his allotted share of alcohol on Sunday night. The incident took place in Haldoni area of Greater Noida.
The accused, Sarvinder, was absconding after the incident. He was arrested by police from Sutyana Cut late on Tuesday night after the cops received a tip-off about his location. A countrymade pistol used in the crime was recovered from his possession along with two live cartridges, police said.
The incident took place around 9pm on Sunday night when Sarvinder, a resident of Mainpuri, was consuming alcohol with Majinder, a resident of Bulandshahr, at their rented accommodation in Haldoni.
Around 9.30pm, neighbours heard a gunshot from the rented accommodation and later found Majinder bleeding profusely. He had sustained a gunshot wound in his neck and was rushed to Max Hospital in Greater Noida.
Station house officer, Ecotech-3, KK Rana, said, “Majinder was later shifted to AIIMS in Delhi for better treatment. He has gained consciousness and is still under treatment at the hospital.”
Rana said that Sarvinder had fled the spot before the neigh- bours could catch hold on him.
The duo was working as operators in a company in Phase-2 area of Noida that manufactures electrical goods. Both became friends at the company and started living together on a sharing basis in Haldoni.
KK Rana said that during questioning Sarvinder told them that the two had got into an argument over quantity of alcohol consumed. “Sarvinder told us that Majinder allegedly consumed more alcohol than his allotted share. Both entered into a heated argument after which Majinder was shot at,” said Rana.
The suspect was produced in a court on Wednesday and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Sarvinder’s cousin Bholu, incidentally, is also in jail in a robbery case. He had supplied the gun to the accused, police claimed. Police said this was Sarvinder’s first criminal case and he did not have a criminal record.
