NEW DELHI: Students of South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s primary schools will get relief from carrying their heavy school bags at least one day a week.

The state education department has decided to organise smart classes every Saturday in south Delhi schools as a part of the school curriculum. At these classes, students will be engaged through interactive sessions, quizzes and other activities.

The education department has been directed to provide projectors to all schools under south civic body’s jurisdiction.

“There are 581 schools in south Delhi and a majority of them have been provided equipment to run smart classes. However, at places where the facility is lacking, we have directed the officials to procure projectors and other equipment with immediate effect,” said Bhupinder Gupta, standing committee chairman, South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Besides organising interactive activities, students will be shown biopics of influential leaders. According to Gupta, this will help kids to improve their general knowledge and understand history of the country .

“We are trying to improve the learning skills of 3 lakh students studying in our schools. Recently we have initiated extra classes for interested kids of Class 4 and Class 5 in Raj Nagar (near Palam Colony). They are given coaching to prepare for entrance test organised by Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas,” said Gupta.
