NEW DELHI: The Delhi Commission for Women has rescued two girls, who were brought to the national capital by a placement agency, after their parents approached the commission.

The commission exposed an alleged trafficking racket by a placement agency in east Delhi with the help of Delhi Police. The commission said that the owner of the agency was arrested and an FIR was registered in the case.

During the raid at the placement agency office, some documents were collected by the police which contained the names and addresses of the children employed through the placement agency, a statement from the commission said.

DCW chief Swati Jaihind and the sub-divisional magistrate of Preet Vihar later visited the police station Mandawli and went through these papers.

“Both t hese girls were brought to Delhi and placed in different homes for domestic work by the same placement agency owner three years ago. Their parents are in Jharkhand and were unable to contact the girl even once in the past three years,” the statement said.

A DCW official said that the 10-year-old girl has been presented to the concerned child welfare committee in Haryana and has been placed in a shelter home by them.

Jaihind said that the placement agencies are running unregulated in the Capital and have become agents of trafficking. She said that a strong law needs to be passed to check the working of placement agencies.

Family members of three other girls have also approached but the girls are still missing.

“Three girls from Jharkhand are still missing. Their parents have been threatened by son of the trafficker that they will be raped in case the case against the trafficker persist,” she said.
