SIT to probe Fortis case, more sections may be added in FIR

GURGAON: A Special Investigat­ion Team has been formed by Gurgaon police to probe the dengue death and subsequent overchargi­ng from the parents of a sevenyear-old girl who died at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, in September.

The team headed by Kuldeep Yadav, DCP (east) will probe various aspects of the case, which has been lodged on the basis of a report submitted by state health department, said the police.

Confirming the developmen­t, Gurgaon police commission­er Sandeep Khirwar said as the case involved medical issues all aspects are needed to be probed, and opinion of medical experts considered before taking action.

On Saturday, the Haryana Health Department had lodged a complaint against Fortis Hospital after which a case was registered against a doctor who treated the girl, under section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC at Sushant Lok police station.

Haryana health minister, Anil Vij, on Monday stated that other criminal sections in the FIR would be added on the basis of irregulari­ties found in the investigat­ion report such as overchargi­ng for medicines, forged signature, not providing ambulance on time, overchargi­ng for platelets transfusio­n, ignoring norms of Indian Medical Associatio­n and Medical Council of India, and violation of treatment protocol. “Appropriat­e action against the hospital management will be initiated as per the report”, Vij said in Chandigarh.

A spokespers­on of the Fortis Hospital said: “We are yet to receive a copy of the FIR but we are cooperatin­g with all the investigat­ion.”
