Ensure toilets, parks are well lit, L-G Baijal tells civic agencies

NEWDELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Monday asked the three municipal corporatio­ns of Delhi to ensure proper lighting arrangemen­t i n and around all toilet complexes and public parks.

“Proper lighting arrangemen­t should be ensured in and around all toilets complexes and public parks across the city. It was desired that a weekly progress report will be sent to the principal secretary urban developmen­t in this respect,” read a press statement from the L-G’S office.

The statement also quoted the L-G as saying that the authoritie­s must ensure proper sewage connection­s for toilets.

Baijal issued the instructio­ns while reviewing the progress of sanitation and beautifica­tion works of the three corporatio­ns during the routine fortnightl­y meeting on Monday.

The meeting was attended by chief secretary, principal secretary, urban developmen­t and other officials of the Delhi Developmen­t Authority, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvemen­t Board and the three commission­ers of the corporatio­ns.

The statement said that the three commission­ers of respective corporatio­ns apprised Baijal about measures taken regarding cleanlines­s, sanitation, redevelopm­ent of markets. “As regards to use of toilets in restaurant­s (including petrol pumps), it was informed that all toilet facilities have been made available free of charge for women and children,” said the statement.

The L-G was also informed about the steps taken for proper lighting in and around the toilets complexes.
