Security agencies flag concerns of ‘lone wolf’ terror attacks in Gujarat
NEWDELHI: Intelligence agencies have said a ‘lone wolf’ terrorist may try to target roadshows of “big political leaders” during the ongoing campaign for the assembly elections in Gujarat, officials said.
Based on intelligence inputs and interrogation reports of two arrested terror suspects, agencies have notified the Gujarat Police to take precautions, a senior government official said
It was not immediately known if the police’s decision to deny permission to Congress and BJP roadshows on Tuesday, was related to the i ntelligence inputs.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner AK Singh cited traffic congestion and the route of the roadshows, as the reasons for denying permission.
A “lone wolf” is a terrorist who typically carry out attacks alone. He may not necessarily have direct contact with any terror organisation.
Uroz Khan, arrested in Madhya Pradesh on November 6, had reportedly told the police that he promised to supply arms and explosives to two suspected ISIS operatives for allegedly carrying out attacks on a Jewish synagogue and during rallies in Gujarat, the official said.
ISIS suspect Ubaid Mirza, who was in the NIA’S custody, also reportedly told the agency that an ISIS style “loan wolf” attack had been planned on roadshows in Gujarat.
