Prevent squatting around Humayun’s Tomb, Nizamuddin Dargah, orders LG
NEWDELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Saturday directed civic agencies to beautify areas around Humayun’s Tomb and Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and to prevent encroachment.
“The L-G stressed that to prevent encroachment and to improve aesthetics around Humayun’s Tomb and Nizamuddin Dargah, agencies/stakeholders must explore installation of street furniture and benches,” said a statement from the L-G office. Baijal visited Rajghat and the two tourist sites on Saturday morning with officials from different departments.
At Rajghat, Baijal directed the principal secretary, PWD, to ensure all central verges around the area and parks are maintained. He stressed on cleanliness, green central verges, carpeted roads and uniform signages around the monuments.
“Cleanliness and uniform signages should be the top focus. Officers of Delhi government’s PWD were directed to ensure proper re-carpeting of the roads leading to Rajghat,” the statement said.
During his visit to the 16th century Humayun’s Tomb and the mausoleum of the 12th century Sufi saint Hazarat Nizamuddin, the L-G was informed by officials that two parking lots would be developed in the area.
Baijal was accompanied by the principal secretary (PWD), commissioner of South DMC, tourism secretary , CEO, of Delhi Jal Board, special commissioner of police (law and order), joint commissioner of police (traffic), engineer-in-chief, PWD, and representatives from the Archaeological Survey of India.
