NEW DELHI: Hours after she had a fight with her husband over a New Year’s party, a 27-year-old nurse and her one-and-a-halfyear-old daughter were found hanging from the ceiling fan of their house in east Delhi’s Vinod Nagar on Tuesday morning.

Prima facie, police have ruled out foul play and said they suspect that the nurse, Yabreena, killed her daughter and then committed suicide. However, no suicide note was found from the spot. Probe has also shown that Yabreena and her husband, Abhi Kumar Singh, who works as a manager at a car showroom, fought frequently over his drinking habit.

“On Monday evening, he was hosting a few friends at his house, which led to another quarrel between the couple after the guests left home. Upset over this, Singh left home and went to his brother’s house in Kaushambi and when he returned on Tuesday, he found his wife and daughter dead,” said a police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ombir Singh Bishnoi said the bodies were found around 8 am. “After repeated attempts, when his wife did not open the gate, he peeped from the window and spotted hanging bodies from the ceiling fan,” said another police officer.

A police team reached the spot and rushed the mother-daughter duo to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post mortem.

Since the couple’s marriage was five years old, an SDM level inquest was also initiated. Magistrate inquests are conducted all such cases if the woman involved has been married for less than seven years.

In his statement before the SDM, Yabreena’s brother is learnt to have said that the relations between his sister and her husband were cordial. Her husband Singh, however, admitted to the police that the two fought and had even fought the night before but he never thought she could take the extreme step. Suresh Joshi, a neighbour of the couple who lives in D-block of West Vinod Nagar, said they had noisy.

MOTHER WAS KILLED

Police said Yabreena’s mother was also found dead a few years ago and police had arrested her father for her murder. After her father went to jail, Yabreena moved in with her brother and when he got married, she started living independently.
