‘Biggest’ illegal arms manufacturer held
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Tuesday said they have arrested one of the biggest illegal firearm manufacturers from Madhya Pradesh who was a major weapons supplier to gangs in the capital.
The arrest of Nanak, alias Rahul, on New Year’s Day also led to the 2018’s first major arms seizure. A total of 30 sophisticated pistols and a carbine were recovered from Nanak, police said. The carbine, an automatic rifle, is an uncommon seizure and was brought for a gangster whose name the police did not share.
“Nanak is a second-generation illegal arms manufacturer from Barwani district in Madhya Pradesh. He joined his father and elder brother in their trade. His name had come up during many seizures of arms. Several of those arrested mentioned his name,” DCP (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said, adding that Nanak was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest.
He was arrested from Mukarba Chowk on Monday where he had come to deliver a consignment.
“We received a tip-off and deployed our men in plainclothes atmukarbachowk.whennanak arrived with two bags containing 30 sophisticated semi-automatic pistols and one automatic Carbine, he was overpowered and arrested. The bags were seized from his possession,” said Nanak.
He further revealed that he had been supplying arms to the receivers of Delhi- NCR at a cost between ₹12,000 and ₹15,000 each.
“The recovered Carbine has been priced at ₹1 lakh. Efforts are being made to identify other buyers and manufacturers of this syndicate. We have also registered a separate Arms Act case after the seizure,” said Kushwah.
