THE SIT THAT IS PROBING THE RAPE IS SCANNING CCTV FOOTAGE AS NOT MUCH HEADWAY HAS BEEN MADE IN THE CASE

NEWDELHI: Almost 40 hours after a 23-year-old woman was abducted and raped by two men in a moving car, the Haryana government on Monday transferred Faridabad police commissioner Hanif Qureshi as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Security.

Qureshi has been replaced by IGP Hisar Amitabh Singh Dhillon. The announcements were made by chief secretary DS Dhesi and additional chief secretary(home) SS Prasad in Chandigarh on Monday. Dhesi said police would arrest the men involved in the rape and built a strong case against them.

Taking remedial measures for women safety, the Haryana government said its helpline number 1091 has been centralised across the state to prove round-the-clock response to women in distress. Currently, the helpline works at a separate control room in each district. In the new system, the calls from across the state for help will be received at a single centre to initiate immediate process for its redressal, it said.

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) that is probing the rape is scanning CCTV footage as not much headway has been made in the case.

“We are in the process of scanning footage being secured from some places on highway or bypass road where CCTV cameras were installed,” police spokesman said.

“The investigators have come across the footage of an SUV in high-speed,” he said, adding, “The person, who saw the woman being dragged inside the Scorpio on Saturday evening, noted HR 99 as the number of the vehicle used for the crime”.

“The temporary number is valid for one month. But we have started scanning three months’ records all across Haryana to nab the abductors,” Rajesh Cheche, ACP (crime), said.

Three youths had allegedly gang-raped the woman after abducting her from Rajiv Gandhi Chowk area in Old Faridabad on Saturday evening. “When the incident took place, a man called Dinesh saw it and informed the police control room,” the spokesman said. “The abductors fled via the bypass road and then turned towards Palwal taking Mathura Road,” he said.

The woman’s family came to know about her abduction as she was talking to her cousin over the phone at that time. “As the call abruptly ended and the phone was switched off, her cousin sensed something was wrong and called her family members, who informed the police,” a police official said.

Police said that the brother of the woman accompanied the police in the search operation. Almost all the police stations were alerted and barricades were put on Mathura road from Badarpur to Palwal.

“It was around 9.15 pm when the victim called her brother, saying she was near Sikri village on Mathura Road,” the official said. GHAZIABAD: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and molested by two minor boys at a servant’s quarter in the Hindon air base in Ghaziabad.

The girl’s father lodged an FIR in the case on Saturday and named the two accused, who are 15 and 16 years old. The girl was taken for medical examination on Monday, but her parents refused to get her examined, police said.

The police said they have called the two accused for questioning and their medical examination will be conducted.

In his complaint, the girl’s father stated that the two boys allegedly gang raped and molested his daughter on two separate days inside the air base. He later approached the police on Saturday and lodged a case at the Sahibabad police station.

The FIR was filed under sections 376d (gang rape), 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code. The boys have also been booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

“The girl was raped in the servant quarters inside the air base on January 10,” Noida city superintendent of police Akash Tomar said.
