NEWDELHI: Three men were killed and another injured in three separate road accidents that took place within two hours on Sunday night in north Delhi’s Timarpur and Civil Lines.

Police said poor visibility on roads because of fog caused the accidents. In all the three cases, the victims were riding motorcycles without wearing helmet.

In the first accident, a 28-yearold man from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat was killed when his motorcycle rammed a stationary tempo at Sangam Mohalla in Timarpur around 9 pm. The biker, identified by his single name Neeraj, was headed to his native home when the accident took place. Neeraj had a dairy business in Delhi.

Police said the tempo driver had parked the vehicle on the roadside after it broke down. The driver had left the driver’s side door open and had not switched on the blinkers.

“Since the area was dark and visibility on the road was low because of the fog, Neeraj failed to see the parked tempo. His bike hit the tempo’s door. Neeraj fell off the bike and suffered severe head injuries,” said a police officer.

The locals called the police control room and Neeraj was rushed to Sushruta Trauma Center in a police van. Doctors, however, declared him brought dead. His family members were informed about his death. Neeraj’s body was handed over to his family after the autopsy was done on Monday. The tempo driver, Sanjeev Bharti, was arrested and his vehicle was impounded by the police.

Neeraj’s family members told police that he was returning to his village to attend a function organised for his new-born son. Neeraj’s wife gave birth to their son 20 days ago, said police.

The second accident also took place in Timarpur area. Around 10 pm, 35-year-old Yuvraj was heading towards Kashmere Gate when his motorcycle was hit by an unknown vehicle on Wazirabad flyover. Yuvraj fell off the bike and his head hit a road divider. He was admitted to Aruna Asaf Ali hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on admission.

In the third accident that took place around 11 pm in Majnu Ka Tila area in Civil Lines, 22-yearold biker Rafiq was killed and his friend Babu Lal was injured after their bike was hit by an i20 car. Both of them were riding without helmets. The car driver fled.
