We must make judicious use of nature’s resources

-

A few days ago, when I reached school, I found a notice outside the gate saying, “School closed due to inclement weather”.

On many other occasions, I had jumped with joy for getting a holiday. But that day, the same notice left me deeply disturbed.

After I reached home, I threw my school bag in a corner of my room and had lain on the bed. My mother, father and grandmother came running to me with a volley of questions — What’s the matter? What has happened? Why such a dull long face today?

I ,was, however, lost in thoughts — Is this a harbinger of doom? We should feel ashamed of living in such a modernised era with so many envi- ronmental issues and yet failing to do anything about them. In a flash, a thought came to my mind, “Ask not what your country can do for you, rather ask what you can do for your country.”

Why can’t we young citizens join hands to curb this problem? We can use alternative sources of energy such as geother mal power, solar and wind energy to save our planet.

The ruthless cutting of trees and dumping of waste should be checked regularly.

I shared my thoughts with my parents. My grandmother innocently said, “I have heard about winter and summer vacations, but not pollution vacation.” I told her that we need to mend our ways. We agreed that we are testing Mother Earth’s patience and have forgetten the statement of a wise person — “Nature has enough for man’s need, not for his greed.”

All my family members swung into action and decided to do our bit to save Mother Earth.

My father took the job of making sure that everyone plants at least a tree on his or her birthday.

My mother said she would talk to the general manager of our society about installing solar panels in the society.

My brother said that he would ensure his friends do not waste paper.
