NEWDELHI: A man whose wife had filed a complaint of domestic violence against him, allegedly stabbed to death his father-in -law, a 56-year-old government school employee, in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Tuesday evening.

A few hours after attending a hearing in the complaint his wife Preeti had filed against him in a Dwarka court, Karamveer went to his father- in-law, Jogesh Kumar’s residence around 5-30 pm and committed the murder there, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said Karamveer allegedly murdered Kumar in front of Preeti and her mother.

“Preeti was standing outside the house when her husband reached there and said he wanted to talk to her father. He then pushed her aside and went inside the drawing room where Kumar was sitting on a sofa. He stabbed Kumar. Preeti rushed to save her father but Karamveer pushed her away and fled,” said Singh

He added that Karamveer was absconding.

With the help of her uncle who lives nearby, Preeti rushed her father to the nearby Gandhi Nursing Home where he was declared brought dead. The family informed the police and a case of murder was registered at Uttam Nagar police station.

Investigations revealed that Preeti had married Karamveer in February 2012 and soon after they got married, he allegedly started torturing her. Preeti further learnt that her husband had no regular source of income, was an alcoholic and sustained on odd jobs that were few and far between, said an investigator.

In July 2012, Preeti left her husband’s house and started liv- ing with her parents again. Singh added that while staying away from her parents, she filed separate complaints of domestic violence with the police as well as in Dwarka court.

“No case was registered and the matter was sent to a mediation centre within the court. The couple were called whenever a hearing was held and counselled by the authorities there. One such hearing was scheduled on Tuesday,” said Singh.

The deceased Kumar worked at a government school in Tagore Garden, said his son Abhishek Kumar.
