NEWDELHI: A 28-year-old man died while five others were injured after their car hit a truck on Tuesday night.

According to the police, the Scorpio car driver lost control of his vehicle in south Delhi’s Chhattarpur and crashed with the Tata 407 vehicle.

Sameer, a building material supplier, was returning home along with his five co-workers at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses told police that the driver lost control, hit the truck and jumped on the divider around 10.30 pm.

One of the truck drivers called the police control room, after which a police van reached the spot and took all the six men to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where Sameer was declared brought dead.

Police is probing how the driver lost control.

Investigating officials suspect the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident because the team reportedly found liquor bottles in the car.

The statements of Sameer’s co-workers, who are admitted in the Trauma Centre, are awaited. An FIR has been registered at the Mehrauli police station.

Police also suspect that poor visibility because of the fog could have led to the accident. According to MET officials, there was moderate fog across the city with visibility reduced to around 300 metres.
