CRPF constable shoots his senior dead in Gr Noida

GREATERNOI­DA: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was killed allegedly by his junior officer at a force camp in Greater Noida on Wednesday morning.

Police said Constable Sanjeev Kumar allegedly shot at and killed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Manoj Kumar Rai of 177 Battalion. The incident took place at the CRPF camp near Ecotech III police station in Greater Noida. Kumar had allegedly used his service rifle to shoot Rai. ASI Rai along with his battalion was posted in Sopore, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.

Details about the incident were hazy as police said they were investigat­ing the matter. The incident came to light in the even-

ing when Ecotech III police booked Kumar under Indian Penal Code section 302 for the murder of his senior, ASI Rai, and arrested him.

“In an unfortunat­e incident, ASI Manoj Kumar Rai met his demise when a bullet fired from the rifle of constable Sanjeev Kumar had hit him. Motive of firing has not been revealed yet and investigat­ion is going on. For now, we have booked Kumar for murder and arrested him in the evening. We have also seized his rifle,” said K K Rana, station house officer, Eco tech III police station, Greater Noida.

However, police sources associated with the probe said that the shooting took place after a fight between the two personnel. A senior police official, on condition of anonymity, said, “We are yet to get their background details but it is being said that they had a fight. Kumar shot Rai between 9am to 10am with his service rifle. Rai was rushed to the hospital for emergency attention. Rai breathed his last in the hospital.”
