JAIPUR/AHMEDABAD : Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments have decided to move the Supreme Court against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat.

The Supreme Court had earlier this week stayed notifications issued by some states banning the release of the controversial film.

“After studying the Supreme Court’s decision against the ban on the film, the state government has decided to file a review petition in the SC. The state government is of the view that the honour of the historic event of Jauhar should be protected as per the public sentiment”, Rajasthan’s home and justice minister Gulabchand Kataria said.

Echoing similar views, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said: “We would once again knock on the apex court’s doors”.

NO SCREENING IN GUJ

Gujarat multiplex owners have decided not to screen the Padmaavat, fearing vandalism from members of fringe groups.

The theatre owners said they don’t want to suffer any loss and as a result have taken the call to not screen the film.

“We have decided not to screen the movie in the whole of Gujarat. Everyone is scared. No multiplex wants to bear the loss. Why should we bear the loss?” said Rakesh Patel, director, Gujarat multiplex association.
