NEWDELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his government would provide the best possible legal assistance to the family of 23-year-old man who was killed in west Delhi on Thursday. Two days after the incident, Kejriwal tweeted that he had spoken to Saxena’s father.

“The incident cannot be condemned enough. The Delhi government will hire the best lawyer to ensure justice for Ankit. We will try everything to ensure the culprits are awarded strictest punishment,” the Delhi CM tweeted on Sunday.

The deceased, Ankit Saxena, a wedding photographer, had his throat slit by a sharp weapon and was killed in front of his parents on a busy road in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar on Thursday night allegedly by family members of a woman he was courting. Police have so far arrested three and apprehended a minor in connection with the murder.

Kejriwal’s statement comes a day after Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari met Saxena’s family and called it a “pre-planned professional killing”.

“Shocked and horrified on cold blooded murder of #Ankitsaxena. Culprits should be punished with the highest quantum [sic],” Tiwari tweeted.

Two AAP Rajya Sabha MPS Sushil Gupta and Sanjay Singh also called on the bereaved family on Sunday.

“Chief minister Arvind Kejri- wal asked me to meet the family members of Ankit Saxena. The CM will meet Ankit’s father after he returns from Haridwar. Delhi government is with the family. All help will be provided to them,” Gupta said after visiting the family.

A government spokesperson said that CM would meet the family as soon as they return from Haridwar. “Delhi govt will help in every possible way,” he said.

In a tweet on Sunday, AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj lauded Tiwari for supporting inter-faith relationships.

“Irrespective of our political ideologies, I welcome @Manojtiwarimp ji who has supported inter-faith & inter-religious marriages by consenting adults,” he wrote in a tweet.
