Sachin to flag off Delhi marathon; field of more than 15,000 expected

NEW DELHI: Top runners Kheta Ram, Gopi T and Jitendra Rawat will take part as more than 15,000 are expected to compete at the New Delhi Marathon on Sunday. The event, to be flagged-off by Sachin Tendulkar from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, is the national marathon championsh­ip, recognised by the AFI.

SAWEETY IN SEMIS

SOFIA(BULGARIA): Former world silver-medallist Saweety Boora (75kg) and Meena Kumar Devi (54kg) entered the semi-finals of Strandja Memorial boxing. Meena beat Italy’s Giulia Lamagna and Saweety beat Leah Cooper of the US in the quarter-finals. In the men’s event, world youth medallist Naman Tanwar (91kg) lost to Russia’s Ivan Sagaidak in a round of 16 clash.

OLTMANS FOR PAK

KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation is eyeing Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans to once again take charge of the national team before the CWG. Oltmans has coached Pakistan in 2003-2004 and is in Oman where Pakistan are playing a triangular with Japan and the hosts.

INDIA WIN GOLD

NEW DELHI : India A team, captained by Kiran Nadar, won the Commonweal­th Nations Bridge defeating Australia at Gold Coast. The tournament saw 36 teams including two from India (India A and India B competing. The India A team featured Nadar, B Satyanaray­ana, Jaggy Shivdasani, Rajeshwar Tewari, Sunit Chokshi and Keyzad Anklesaria.

3 DELHI TEAMS IN FRAY

NEWDELHI: The 2017-2018 edition of the 2nd division football league will feature 18 teams with seven Indian Super League (ISL) clubs fielding their reserve teams. The preliminar­y round of the tournament is divided into three groups with six teams each and it will take place between March 16, 2018 and May 15, 2018. Delhi will have the maximum representa­tion with three clubs — Delhi Dynamos (reserves), Hindustan FC, Delhi United – taking part.
