NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party’s Uttam Nagar legislator Naresh Balyan on Friday stirred a controversy after he said that the officials who obstruct public works should be “thrashed”.

The party was quick to distance itself from Balyan’s statement.

The AAP legislator’s remarks came three days after Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash alleged that he was assaulted by AAP MLAS in a meeting .

Balyan, while addressing a gathering in presence of Kejriwal in Bindapur area of his con- stituency on Friday, said officials take up to three to six months for doing works that should be done in three days. They sit on files for months because the chief minister has abolished corruption, he alleged.

“Jo chief secretary ke sath hua, jo inhone jhootha aarop lagaya, main to keh raha hu aise adhikariyo ko thokna chahye, jo aam aadmi ke kaam rok ke baithe hain. Aise adhikariyo ke sath yahi salook hona chahye (What happened with chief secretary, the false allegations that he levelled, I will say that such officers should be beaten up, those who have stopped the work of a common man should be given such treatment only),” Balyan said.

Senior AAP leader Atishi Marlena condemned the statement. “Strongly condemn statement made by Naresh Balyan. All government officers need to be treated respectfully. AAP government believes in working in collaboration with them for Delhi’s development,” Marlena said in a tweet.

VIJENDER GUPTA FILES FIR AFTER ‘THREAT’

BJP’S Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Friday filed a police complaint, alleging he received a threat from AAP activist Dalip Kumar.

Gupta filed the complaint after the AAP activist allegedly wrote on Twitter tagging Gupta that he should not go to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, as “his goons would not only slap you but will beat on the street with rods and sticks”.

Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi), said, “We have received a complaint and are examining it.”

AAP distanced itself from Kumar. “We do not know Dalip Kumar. Just because some one uses the word AAP in his Twitter handle doesn’t mean he is part of the party,” said Dilip Pandey, AAP spokesperson.
