NEW DELHI: The police are banking on the post-mortem report for a clue on the death of a man whose body was found in the tunnel of the Delhi Metro’s airport line.

Initial report suggest the body remained undetected for at least for three months.

Police found the lock of the shaft entry broken, which suggests the man had either entered the tunnel on his own or was thrown down from the shaft.there were external injuries, which could have been due to a fall from the emergency shaft, which is as high as a fourstorey building.

A senior police officer said no stab marks or bullet wounds were found on the body but they haven’t ruled out the possibility of a murder. Police have not found anything that can help them in identification.

The decomposed body was found inside a highly protected tunnel of the Delhi Metro’s airport line.

“We have started an audit to plug possible loopholes in the metro security. The fact that this man managed to reach the restricted area and break the lock of the shaft is a security failure. While this place has been identified, a detailed audit will be conducted to cover the entire metro network,” said a senior police officer, who did not wish to be named.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for the security of Metro system, admitted that tunnel of the network is a grey area and they have pointed out the loophole many times.

“From our side, we had even requested for additional forces so that we can patrol the tunnel area. But the demand was rejected,” said a CISF officer.
