Gang rivalry results in double murder in Narela
THE TWO GANGS WERE ALLEGEDLY IN BATTLE OF “ONEUPMANSHIP”
OVER ESTABLISHING DOMINANCE ILLEGAL BOOTLEGGING
NEW DELHI: An alleged battle of “one-upmanship” between two rival gangs over establishing dominance in the illegal bootlegging and property business led to the murder of two men and left another injured in outer Delhi’s Bankner village near Narela on Thursday night.
The three, identified by their first names Satish, Govind, and Mukesh, were stabbed and shot multiple times allegedly by a group of 10 to 12 people. At least five bullets were fired by the attackers. While Satish and Govind died on the spot, Mukesh is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in central Delhi.
Around 8 pm, the three were attacked by the assailants who had come on motorcycles and were having a discussion with the three over an issue.
The attack was captured on CCTV camera. In the video footage, the suspects are seen arguing with the three men. One of them is seen taking out a pistol and firing at Govind, who collapsed on the road. The attackers go on to attack Satish and Mukesh, who are seen moving out of the frame.
A few seconds later, three attackers return to the spot where Govind was lying. Two of them are seen kicking Govind, while the third is seen attacking him with a long sharp weapon. Vehicles are seen moving on the road but nobody came forward to help the victims because the attackers were armed with firearms and knives.
Locals said the firing trigged panic among residents and commuters. Two to three vehicles collided as their drivers panicked after hearing the gunshots. The occupants abandoned their vehicles to save their lives.
Police said they identified the suspects and raids were on to apprehend them. Two persons were detained for questioning. They said the three victims have criminal cases against them.
“We have some leads. Our probe is on and the suspects will be caught soon,” said Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini).
A police officer said the prime suspect, who has nine cases against him, was earlier arrested in bootlegging cases. He had a rivalry with Satish and Govind, who too were into bootlegging and property grabbing.
Police said the victims’ rival gang leader suspected them of acting as police informers and passing information about the movements of the consignments of illicit liquor which he used to smuggle into Delhi from Haryana.
During the probe, the officer said, it was learnt that a few months ago, a consignment of illicit liquor being smuggled into Delhi in a vehicle from Haryana was caught by the police. The rival gang leader suspected Satish and Govind of passing information to the police about the consignment and held them responsible for the losses.
