NEWDELHI: Mandoli jail authorities on Wednesday told a city court that there was no threat to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan, who is in jail for allegedly assaulting chief secretary Anshu Prakash during a midnight meeting at chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.

The jail authorities submitted a report before the court in pursuance to its previous order seeking a reply on the legislator’s application alleging threat to his life.

In its report, the authorities said that when the Okhla MLA was asked about the application, he said he has no apprehension regarding his safety. “It is submitted that the allegations made are baseless,” the report submitted by the jail superintendent said after which the court disposed of the MLA’S application.

The counsel, appearing for the MLA, said Khan’s wife had visited him in jail, where he allegedly told her he is being threatened and harassed by inmates.

Based on the information, the counsel moved an application in the magisterial court. The application had stated that Khan was terrified that he may be killed in custody. The plea had sought that he be shifted from Mandoli jail.

AAP MLAS Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal were sent to jail for 14 days last Thurs- day. A magisterial court had refused to grant bail to them, pointing out that they were “history-sheeters” and allegations against them were very serious in nature.

JARWAL MOVES HC

AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal, arrested for allegedly assaulting chief secretary Anshu Prakash, on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court seeking the relief.

The bail plea is likely to come up for hearing before justice Mukta Gupta on Thursday.

Jarwal was on Tuesday denied bail for the second time with a court saying it could not ignore the fact that the lawmaker had “openly violated the dignity” of a 56-year-old public servant who was “honestly discharging duties”. The court, while refusing to grant bail to Jarwal, had said the situation could not be more alarming when lawmakers do not respect the rule of law.

Dismissing the plea of the MLA, the court had noted that the chief secretary’s allegations were confirmed by his medical report as well as the statement of chief minister Kejriwal’s adviser VK Jain, who claimed he saw the CS being assaulted by the MLAS. Seeking bail before the sessions court, Jarwal’s counsel had pleaded that the MLA was a young politician and had got married recently on February 6 so he be granted the relief.
