WASHINGTON: Former President Barack Obama, who appeared recently on Netflix as a guest on comic David Letterman’s comeback show, could soon have his own show, or more, on the streaming service that has 118 million subscribers in the US.

The former president and his wife, Michelle Obama, are in advanced stages of negotia- tion with Netflix for “exclusive content” that would be available only on the streaming service, according to a report in The New York Times.

The number of episodes and the formats for the shows have not been decided, and no announcement has been made about a possible launch date. It was also unclear how much money the Obamas would be paid.

The report suggested that the Obamas could produce a series of high-profile shows, and even star in them, on subjects of interest to them, carrying over from their eight years in the White House. It added that Obama could moderate conversations on topics that domi- nated his presidency — voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change, and health care by discussing the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare.

The report said that another programme could feature Michelle on topics such as nutrition and childhood obesity, a subject close to her heart and one she championed relentlessly during her time in the White House.
