NEW DELHI : A 32-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her brother-in-law following a fight at her home in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Wednesday afternoon. Police said the brother-inlaw, identified by his single name, Sikandar, is absconding.

Through the exact motive behind the murder could not be known till late Wednesday evening, police have learnt that Sikandar was in a relationship with a woman but his brother, Shadab, and sister-in-law, Zeba Khan alias Soniya, were against it. A case of murder was registered at the Mandawali police station.

Jasmeet Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police (east), said the crime came to their notice around 4 pm after Shadab called the police control room.

A police team reached Shadab’s home and rushed Soniya to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. “Soniya was shot in her head,” said the additional DCP, adding Shadab has accused his brother Sikandar of killing his wife.

During the probe, Singh said, it was learnt that the couple had an altercation and scuffle with Sikandar on Tuesday as well. Soniya was supporting her husband.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sikandar arrived when Shadab was away.

Soniya called her husband and told him that Sikandar was fighting with her. By the time Shadab reached home, Sikandar had fled after allegedly killing Soniya, said police.
