Five men held for robbery in Chandni Chowk

NEW DELHI: Five men have been arrested in north Delhi for their alleged involvemen­t in a robbery that took place in Chandni Chowk on Tuesday.

Deputy commission­er of police (north) Jatin Narwal said that the robbery incident took place on Tuesday in a stationary shop located in Old Lajpat Rai Market, Chandni Chowk. There were two employees in the shop at the time of incident. Both had brought payment worth ₹18 lakh in the shop minutes before the armed robbers struck the shop.

The accused — Mohsin Alam (24), Md. Sarfraz Alam (24), Amaan (23), Kasim (23) and Sachin (19) — were held 12 hours after the crime was committed, police said.

The accused allegedly entered the shop, took out pistols from the bags they were carrying and threatened the two employees to keep quiet. The hands of one of the employees were tied while the other was held at gunpoint. The accused allegedly stole ₹18 lakh cash and a bag containing a pass book, cheque book and a purse and escaped from the spot.
