Gzb Metro likely to be ready by Sept
GHAZIABAD: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said it has set a target of September 2018 to complete the under-construction 9.41km Metro extension to Ghaziabad from Dilshad Garden in Delhi.
The DMRC, however, said the deadline is subject to a final nod from the Centre and release of funds by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).
The MOU between the DMRC and GDA was signed in June 2014 and officials expected the work to complete by June 2017.
But the deadline was revised to June 2018 and now to September, according to a letter filed by DMRC in response to a query filed by a 74-year-old senior citizen from Ghaziabad.
The earlier project completion date was June 2018. The delay in releasing funds to DMRC has been a major issue. In its reply, the DMRC said the GDA had provided only ₹810 crore out of a total share of ₹1,484 crore that was to be provided by different UP agencies.
“The target date for completion is September 2018, subject to sanction of project by Govern- ment of India and provision of funds by GDA,” the copy of the letter sent to GDA, stated.
The query was raised by VC Jain, a retired officer of the Delhi government and a resident of Rajendra Nagar in Ghaziabad.
“I wrote at least 100 letters to Ghaziabad authorities but there was no reply. Finally, I wrote to the UP CM through the integrated grievance redressal system... The project has been delayed and causing a lot of inconvenience to commuters,” Jain added.
