Speeding dumper kills 4 of a family in Sohna

GURUGRAM: A rampaging dumper truck hit three vehicles, killing four of a family, including two children, on the two-lane state highway at Sohna in Gurgaon district of Haryana on Tuesday night.

The accident took place at Harchandpu­r village where the truck that was coming from Faridabad first hit a Fiat Punto car, then a Scorpio car and finally rammed a bike with two adults and three children. The drivers of the two cars were injured, while four of the five people on the bike were killed. A one-year old boy, who was on the bike, survived the accident.

The dumper driver escaped from the spot taking advantage of the dark and is still at large.“a case has been registered and the accused would be nabbed soon,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police.an FIR has been registered against the dumper driver for rash driving and causing death due to negligence at Sohna Sadar police station.

A team of Gurugram police reached Dhauj to nab the driver. A large number of dumpers operate in Dhauj as it is a designated crusher zone.

It is also suspected that earlier in the evening, the driver had hit another person at BK Chowk in Faridabad and sped off towards Sohna via Ballabhgar­h Road.

The deceased were identified as Irshad, his sister Afsana and her two children Saima and Ayat. The one-year-old boy, Zaid, who survived the accident, is receiving treatment at Sanjeevni hospital in Badshahpur.

The police said the two adults died on the spot but the minor girls were taken to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The family was going towards Ballabhgar­h when the incident took place.

Kohli said he was saved due to timely opening of airbags but he suffered serious internal injuries, and cuts inside the mouth due to the impact of the crash.

He was taken to a medical shop by locals immediatel­y for first aid. “The driver was driving very rashly and in a zigzag manner and suddenly hit my car,” said Kohli.

Sub-inspector Suresh Kumar, incharge of the Nimoth police post said the victim Irshad belonged to Dhauj village in Faridabad, and he had gone to a village near Hathin to fetch his sister.

“The children were going to their maternal village and were excited about their visit. Our team is raiding Dhauj and areas around it to nab the driver,” said Kumar.
