NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in order to ensure smooth passage of commuters at interchange stations, has installed 16 additional automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at the newly-opened Janakpuri West-kalkaji Mandir section of the Magenta Line.
These additional gates have come up at Janakpuri West — the interchange point from Magenta Line to the Blue Line (Vaishali/noida City Centre) — and at Hauz Khas, from where commuters can change for the Yellow Line (Samaypur BadliHuda City Centre).
Metro officials said that out of the 16 AFC gates, 10 have been installed at Hauz Khas, while the remaining six will be operational at Janakpuri West.
“The total number of AFC gates at Hauz Khas will go up from 12 to 22 and in Janakpuri the number will increase from six to 12. In addition to this, the Old Hauz Khas station (Yellow Line) already has seven AFC gates, and the Janakpuri West (Blue Line) has 13 gates,” a statement released by the DMRC read.
Apart from this, the DMRC has also increased the frequency of trains on a few lines. For example, at present all trains coming from the Vishwavidyalaya station are terminating at the last stop, HUDA City Centre.
“Earlier some trains would terminate at Qutub Minar station, and commuters had to wait at the station before they could hop on to the next train. The frequency of trains between Qutab MINAR-HUDA City Centre has also been increased from every 4 minutes 11 seconds to 2 minutes 47 seconds,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC spokesperson.
The 24.82-km Janakpuri-kalakji Mandir section of the Magenta Line was opened for public use on May 29 and has 16 stations — 14 underground and two elevated.
The five-level new Hauz Khas station (with Yellow Line) and Janakpuri West (Blue Line) station are the interchange facilities and with the opening of the new corridor more commuters are using the two stations.
As per DMRC estimates, the line utilisation of the Janakpuri West-kalkaji Mandir section of the Magenta Line had reached 2.87lakh commuters on Day One itself.
