NEW DELHI: A woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping her neighbour’s three-year-old son from outer Delhi’s Alipur and taking him to her relative’s home in Pooth Khurd area in northwest Delhi.

Police said the woman has claimed that she was drunk when she picked up her neighbour’s child and took her away.

She has claimed that her intention was not to kidnap or harm the child.

Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini), said that the police questioned the arrested woman, but did not find any foul play behind the child’s disappearance.

The child was safely rescued and handed over to his family members.

A police officer associated with the case said the child lives with her family members in a slum in Narela area. His parents work in a factory as labourers. On Saturday, the boy’s parents left for work, keeping him with a woman living in the neighbourhood.

When the parents returned home after work, they found their son missing.

The woman was also missing. The family approached the police and filed a kidnapping case.

Police tracked down the woman near a local temple. She led the police to her relative’s home from where the child was rescued. Locals told police that the woman was usually drunk and not realise what she would do.
