Mercury to hover around 41°C, rain likely later this week

NEWDELHI: It was a comparativ­ely cooler weekend as the temperatur­e remained below 40° Celsius for the second consecutiv­e day. The maximum temperatur­e on Sunday settled at 39.7°Celsius and the minimum temperatur­e was 27.7.

The Indian Meteorolog­ical Department (IMD) said that the maximum temperatur­e on Sunday was a notch below the season’s normal. It was also slightly above Saturday’s temperatur­e, where t he maximum was recorded at 38.3°Celsius, two degrees below the season’s normal, while the minimum settled at 26.6°Celsius, a degree below normal.

The weathermen said that in the next three days, the maximum temperatur­e is likely to hover around 40°Celsius with partly cloudy sky. Last week, temperatur­e in the city did not come down below 43 throughout the week.

According to the IMD, on Wednesday the maximum temperatur­e is likely to hit 41°Celsius with chances of “dust or thundersto­rms”, before the temperatur­e goes down.

“There are chances of rain with winds on Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday it is likely to remain cloudy,” a senior official of the IMD said.
